Philly Comedy Round-up, Vol. 85

The new, monthly, Head of the Class Comedy Showcase debuts this Tuesday at Silk City. The show will be hosted by Oliver Yu and Mike Alloy and will feature stand-up from: Mikey Garcia, Bobby Lorello, Omar Scruggs, Jim Ginty, and Chris Cotton.

This Tuesday Helium Comedy Club will host an MTVU stand-up comedy showcase featuring comedy from area college students including: Seth Simons, Tyler Wolf, Chris Whitehair, Tim Ryan, Siraj Iqbal, Noah Goldstein, Jackie Koehn and Alex Grubard.

Alex Pearlman and Corey Cohen will host Always Remember, a night of comedy headlined by Dave Hill this Tuesday at Connie’s Ric Rac. Also performing on the show are: Ryan Shaner, TJ Hurley, and the Necrosexual.

Second Stories Presents: Temporary Madness this Tuesday at The Dive. The show will feature storytelling from: Alejandro Morales, Nicole Yates, Alanna Kennedy-Gorman, Larry Napolitano, and Vickie Fernandez

This Wednesday, Helium Comedy Club will host a stand-up showcase to audition local comedians to host at the club. Performing on the show are: Alex Grubard, Kevin Hurley, Joey Dougherty, Omar Scruggs, and Dave Temple.

The Sideshow returns to The Arts Parlor this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with their Musical Revue – a show featuring local improvisers and comedians performing songs around the theme of love.

Also this Thursday, Figment Theater’s roaming, bi-monthly Vagabond Sessions will make a stop at the Adrienne Theater’s Second Stage for a show featuring: Wisdom Teeth, ‘Til Death Do Us Part, the A.D. Showcase with Max Sittenfield and Maggy Keegan, and The Table.

This Friday Chris McDevitt, Benny Michaels, and Alex Magakis will perform at Boyd’s Cardinal Hollow Winery (1830 West Point Pike, Landsdale PA) for The Laughing Barrell.

A second Sideshow on Saturday night will feature the first round of this year’s Troika tournament. The event features randomly drawn teams of three that each have a month to come up with a team name and style of play. Round One will feature teams comprised of: Chris Calletta, Erin Pitts, and Jessica Ross; Alex Gross, Dan Corkerey, and Joe Spampinato; and Alli Soowal, JP Boudwin, and Kevin Pettit.

McGilliCOMEDY At McGillicuddys debuts this Saturday at JD McGillicuddy’s in Manayunk. The show will be headlined by Sidney Gantt, featuring Dan Scully and Keane Cobb and hosted by Sylis P.

Comedy-Gasm! A Night of Multiple Climaxes is this Saturday upstairs at The Irish Pol. The show will feature performances by: Rachel Fogletto, Walter, Brandon Gorin, Elise Thompson-Hohl, L.U.M.P., and Alejandro Morales.

Also this Saturday comedian Ron White headlines The Keswick Theater. Tickets are available online.

Philly Comedy Round-up, Vol. 77

The Cape May Comedy Festival is now taking submission for their stand-up comedy contest taking place July 26-28. The contest will accept 96 comedians to compete in 12 preliminary rounds where a panel of judges will decide which ten move on to the semi-finals. From there, judges will choose the final three to compete for the first prize package which includes $5,000, a website, head shots, and work at area clubs. More information can be found online.

Recently Conan aired their “Occupy Conan” episode, featuring fans and celebrity guests recreating their favorite bits from the show. A clip from local comedians Curt Riedy (of sketch group High Dramma) and Todd Schaeffer was featured during the broadcast. You can see the entire episode online (their bit appears at the 17:30 mark). You can also check out some of their submissions that didn’t make the air online.

This Tuesday Second Stories Presents: Love is a Battlefield at The Dive (947 E. Passyunk). The free show starts at 7:00pm and will features stories about victory and defeat from Alanna Kennedy-GormanHillary ReaValerie DiMambroVickie Fernandez, and more.

Polygon Comedy’s Lincoln’s Presidential Mardi Gras Masquerade is also Tuesday at L’etage (624 S. 6th St.). The show will feature performances by stand-ups Alison Zeidman and Chris Illuminati ; improv groups Self-Esteem Motivators, Jen and Karen, and Hot Dish; and sketch from Calletta & McGrail.

Free Improv at Connie’s Ric Rac (1132 S. 9th St.) is this Tuesday. The monthly show will feature performances from: Deleted ScenesBad JamesCock HatKait and Andrew and BriannaDennis, Alex, Rob, Stills, and NashSleepwalkerHouse-Broken, and Kid Twist. Doors open at 8:00pm and the show starts at 9:00.

This Friday The Sideshow: Not for Nuthin’ will be at The Arts Parlor (1170 S. Broad St.). The show will feature stand-up from Alejandro Morales; improv from Nielsen and Hot Dog; and the Not for Nuthin’ Podcast featuring hosts Mike Rainey and Tim Butterly.

Something Witty at The Dive (947 E. Passyunk) returns this Friday at 9:00pm for a free stand-up comedy showcase hosted by Alex Pearlman and featuring comedy from Alison Zeidman, Steve Miller Miller, NA Poe, Jess Carpenter, TJ Hurley, and more.

This Saturday Polygon Comedy premieres a new monthly variety show at The Raven Lounge (1718 Sansom St.). The show will begin at 7:00pm and admission is $5. The show will continue on the third Saturday of every month.

Philly Comedy Round-up, Vol. 34

This Saturday, Comedians for a Cause will hold a Benefit Dustin Walls at Connie’s Ric Rac. The show will feature comedians  Joe Mayo, Mike Rainey, James Hesky, Tommy Pope, Dave Terruso, and Eric Todd and all proceeds will go to the family of Dustin, a local friend to many comics who recently passed away after a fight with cancer. Donations can also be made via Pay Pal to mrainey@gmail.com

There are multiple chances this week to get out and see some storytelling. On Tuesday Second Stories Presents: Dream Date (7:00pm, The Dive) will feature stories from Alanna Kennedy-Gorman, Alejandro Morales, Lia Brennan, Alex Gross, Hillary Rea, Larry Napolitano,and Jaime Fountaine. Wednesday’s Tell Me a Story: Yesterday (7:00pm, Shot Tower Coffee) will feature stories from Carolyn Busa, Martha Cooney, Jaime Fountaine, Alejandro Morales, Larry Napolitano, Dave Terruso, Becca Trabin, Todd Shaeffer.

This Wednesday Rooftop Comedy will come to Philadelphia’s Temple University to help pick the team of student comedians that will represent the Owls in this years’ National College Comedy Competition. The show will be at 8:00pm in The Owl Cove in Mitten Hall on Temple’s campus and will feature student comedians vying for a spot in the March 18th competition against Penn State at Helium Comedy Club.

On Friday, The Arts Parlor (1170 S. Broad St.) will host The Sideshow: Powerballin’ . The show will feature improv sets from Asteroid! Beirdo and a Powerball Team, where PHIT Training Center students can put their name in a hat for a chance to be picked to perform with a few improv veterans.

Rittenhouse Comedy will host Kryptonite For Your Relationship this Tuesday night at Noche. The Valentine’s Day show will feature sets from Lisa Yost, Shanell Travis, Sarah M., Steve Miller-Miller, Mary Radzinski, Paul Easton, Alex Pearlman, Conrad Roth, Reggie Conquest and will be hosted by Jack Martin.
