Tonight at 7:30 Philly Improv Theater presents Aaron Hertzog’s bimonthly stand-up comedy showcase Hey Everybody! This week’s show will feature comedy from Hillary Rea, Ryan Carey, Joe Dougherty and Chip Chantry. Check out some videos from tonight’s featured comedians below.
Writer and comedian Ryan Carey posted this detailed ranking of 17 George Carlin albums on his blog. Carey gives each album two ratings, one based on laughs and one based on philosophy. 17 albums is a lot to dig through, but this type of stuff is right down Ryan’s alley. Tonight at L’etage, the second monthly Camp Woods Plus will feature the namesake group plus Philly favorites Secret Pants as well as visitors from New York Skinny Bitch Jesus Meeting. Doors open at 8 and the show starts at 8:30. You can hear Camp Woods talk more about their comedy in last week’s inaugural episode of The Witout Dot Net Podcast. Tomorrow at L’etage marks the return of improv showcase Polygon. This month’s show will feature sets from Gross Butler, Apocalips, Rintersplit, and Angry People Building Things. Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8:00. The lineups for the first annual NYC Improv Festival have been announced and several Philadelphia teams have made the cut. The festival, which will take place from March 21-24 will feature Philly groups Mayor Karen, King Friday, Asteroid, Hey Rube, and Iron Lung. This Wednesday will mark the debut of the Philebrity Showcase, a free monthly evening of comedy and music, hand-selected by the Philebrity staff, at Fergie’s Pub. This month’s show will feature comedian Tommy Pope along with music from Ladies Auxiliary. We made a mistake last week when we said that Stage Fright, the improvised Alfred Hitchcock show ended this past weekend. It’s still running through this week and you can still pick up tickets. [LOL With It] Speaking of LOL With It, writer Ryan Carey sat down with Matt McCarthy this past Friday and got an interview with him. [LOL With It] Rick Horner is organizing a Philadelphia comedy festival called F. Harold that will take place at the prestigious Walnut Street Theatre and feature exclusively Philadelphia comedy performers. Submissions have begun for all acts, stand-up, sketch, and improv. [Facebook Event] Luke Giordano at Everything You Like Is Stupid posted on Friday giving his opinions on racism (he doesn’t like it). [Everything You Like Is Stupid] Philly Improv Theater‘s two-week run at the Shubin begins tonight with The Gross Show at 8:00. The full schedule for the next two weeks is up on their website. The premiere of Face Time with Chip Chantry is tomorrow night at Helium Comedy Club. A spin on the traditional late night talk show format, it’ll feature performances by Aaron Hertzog, headliner and Philly native Mike Vecchione, and possibly the final performance of Meg & Rob. [Facebook Event] Comedian Jason Hazelwood has recently completed his mission of writing a short poem a day for a year and posting them all on YouTube. Including , “I Like Pigtails”, and “I Like the Bengals.” [YouTube Channel] Speaking of Meg & Rob, Ryan Carey just featured them in an interview for his City Paper column “LOL With It.” [LOL With It] Luke Giordano updated Everything You Like Is Stupid this morning with a timely humor piece making fun of Jersey Shore‘s The Situation. [EYLIS] Audition slots for Philly Improv Theater‘s new house improv teams are filling up. The new teams are set to be directed by Kristen Schier and Matt Holmes. Bedtime Stories is tonight at Connie’s Ric Rac. The theme this month is “The Worst Night of Your Life.” [Facebook Event] Quizzo Bowl VII, hosted by Philly comic Johnny Goodtimes has a promo video up starring Goodtimes, other Philly comic Chip Chantry, and city favorite “Fastball Pitcher” Bob Gutierrez. [YouTube] The Holding Court Podcast continues to go strong, now into its thirteenth episode. The podcast, hosted by Aaron Hertzog and Gregg Gethard, is all about pro basketball, but rarely discusses it. [Holding Court Podcast] The Get Offended Comedy Contest is next month at Connie’s Ric Rac and has a gigantic line-up with such offensive and profane heavyweights like Mayo, Brendan Kennedy, and Mike Rainey. Horrible things about people’s mothers/Jesus will be surely said. [Facebook Event] Steve Gerben has been on a roll with videos recently, having put out New Age Medic a few weeks ago. The March Madness Comedy Competition is heating up. The first night of round two took place at Connie’s Ric Rac Last Night and the comedians who advanced to round three were Ian Fidance, Jamil B, Tommy Pancrazio, and Dan Knabb. Tonight, the Madness continues at Comedy X-Change. [
