Description: Sketch Up or Shut Up is Philadelphia’s Only Sketch Comedy Open Mic! All are welcome to perform sketch comedy or simply enjoy the show. This is the place for sketch comedians to work out new or in-progress material in front of an audience of their peers for notes/feedback. Whether you’re looking to have your material performed in front of an audience or simply wish to volunteer to perform for writers in need of actors this is the place for you! Sketch Up or Shut Up runs from approx. 11:00 p.m. to midnight. We do not screen material for this show – sign-ups are first come, first served. The list will be available 20-30 minutes before showtime at The Shubin Theatre. As such, please feel free to bring as many sketches as you like but the number of groups/writers each month may necessitate everyone only being able to perform one sketch. We will make every effort to fit in as many groups as possible, but please remember this is an open mic and we only have an hour: so please respect your fellow comedians and keep your sketches to *five minutes* or less! Sketch Up or Shut Up was created by Meg Favreau and is hosted by Brian Kelly. Sketch, stand-up, musical comedy, characters, improv… you name it – come see the best the city has to offer in one laugh-filled hour! Style: Variety Date: Fridays Time: 10pm Admission: PHIT Ticketleap Page Location: Philly Improv Theater, 407 Bainbridge St. Philadelphia Contact: Webpage Description: Rob Baniewicz (Camp Woods) and Paul Triggiani (Secret Pants) used to watch a lot of television, but they don’t anymore, because most television is terrible. That doesn’t stop them from obsessing over programs from the past, especially shows that have been forgotten for a good reason. Join Rob, Paul, and special guests as they present lost and forgotten television shows from the annals of programming history, followed by a discussion on what we can learn from these programs, and why they (probably) sucked. Free brews will be provided for all (while supplies last) thanks to Naragansett, the official beer of TV Party! With assistance from co-host Roger C. Snair, who regularly submits his own plays to the show, Joe and a group of Philly’s top comedians are sure to surprise you with how hard they commit to the crap they have decided to stage for your amusement and the bizarre improv riffs they go on as inspiration hits them. Guilty Pleasures was created by Brendan Kennedy Style: Found Comedy Date: Wednesdays Time: 8:30pm Admission: PHIT Ticketleap Page Location: Philly Improv Theater, 407 Bainbridge St. Philadelphia Contact: Webpage Description: 4 STORYTELLERS. 1 FIBBER. After swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, Philly’s most talented storytellers share their own personal, awkward, outrageous, gripping, and twisted experiences with the audience – but someone has made it all up. It’s the audience’s job to hear the stories, interrogate the performers with help from host Hillary Rea, and vote for the person whose pants they think are on fire. After a secret audience ballot, the fibber is revealed and those who chose wisely are rewarded with a smug sense of satisfaction and free tickets to a future show. Hosted by improv duo Ebony & Ivory (Corin Wells and Maureen Costello), Philly’s CAGEMATCH is also notable for the ridiculous Double-Dare style challenges each team is subjected to weekly in order to decide who performs first and second on each show. One-part parody of America’s obsession with gameshows and competition, one-part chairman Greg Maughan’s homage to the British Radio programs he was raised on, and one-part total nonsense, AFAS is a panel-based gameshow featuring Philly’s top comedians in a meaningless competition filled with a series of challenges that test talents as varied as self-censoring ability, recognizing product barcodes, and naming songs played by the audience on kazoo.
